History of Art I: Ancient - Early Medieval
Survey of art and architecture in the ancient world and medieval Europe until about A.D. 1100.
Survey of East Asian Art
This introductoy course covers the major monuments of Indian, Chinese, and Japanese art from the prehistoric period to the present. It is designed to offer a broad overview of the visual and spiritual traditions of East Asia with special focus on Buddhist art and later developments in secular art. Lectures will be supplemented by videos, demonstrations, and visits to the Cincinnati Art Museum.
William Morris and His World
Examination of the influence of William Morris & how the Arts & Crafts movement was embraced in America, specifically the Midwest by studying the collections of the Art Museum.
Independent Study
Individual projects in collaboration with a faculty member on subjects of mutual interest, based on written proposal. Prereq: As a free elective, instructor's and adviser's approval; as overload, 2.5 cumulative average and instructor's and adviser's approval.
African American Art, 1945-present
African-American painting, sculpture, prints, photography, performances, installations, environments, videos, and street art from 1945 to present. Issues include civil rights, antiwar, and women's movements.

History of Japanese Prints II
This is the second part of the two-quarter course on the history of Japanese prints. It will cover the prints from the second half of the nineteenth century to the present. Modern and contemporary Japanese painting and prints have been increasing- increasingly attracting the attention of scholars and collectors in the last few decades. In the first few meetings, students will be given an overview of Edo period prints. They will also be introduced to various currents in modern Japanese art including painting in both Japanese and Western styles. The rest of the quarter will be devoted to investigations of the revival of wood block prints from the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries and the subsequent cross- pollination between Japanese prints and contemporary European woodcuts.
