Admission Information

Applicants for admission to the Master of Fine Arts program are normally expected to have a bachelor's degree in art. However, applicants who have a bachelor's degree in some other discipline will be considered if their application materials prove that the applicant's past work and experience in art is exemplary. Examples (digital images or slides) of creative work must be presented for evaluation and must show significant achievement in the major area. The following items are required for evaluation by the School of Art Graduate Admissions Committee:

  • a completed University Graduate Application form with application fee
  • a digital or slide portfolio of applicant's artwork
  • transcripts of all college, university and/or art school work including all undergraduate credit and graduate credit if applying as a transfer student.
  • 3 letters of recommendation (Note There are no special forms for these.)
  • a personal statement of intention
  • International applicants must provide Test of English as Foreign Language (TOEFL) scores (520 minimum score)
  • the GRE is not required

Application Deadline

The application deadline is February 1 of each year, to begin studies the following September.
