Student Work
Problems in Museum Administration (Course Title)
The course (pdf) assignment was to create a fictional museum in a community somewhere in the United States. The students worked in two groups and were given complete latitude in deciding the location, nature, and composition of their fictional museums. They were challenged to conceptualize their museums in sufficient detail so that it would appear on paper that the museums actually did exist.
Students presented their work in three-inch presentation binders which included sample materials relating to their museums ranging from mission statements and by-laws to sample brochures and logo t-shirts. They also presented their work orally using Powerpoint presentations and working websites. All of the information contained in the following projects was completely fabricated by the students in their quest for the appearance of authenticity. In fact, the two museums are not authentic.
