MFA 2009- crossing

The capstoning of an MFA with the requisite Thesis Show often presents a crossroads intersecting expectations met and unmet by an artist and the institution they're departing. For the 20 current UC Master's of Fine Art Candidates of DAAP, a new and fascinating expectation has been added for themselves, their institution and their audience. How, for the first time, to simultaneously exhibit 20 thesis shows and the broad spectrum of contemporary media and style they represent, in an Arts Center housed in an historic former schoolhouse? The Crossing exhibition at the CCAC not only represents the meeting and exceeding of all of the above expectations, but also showcases exciting, sometimes controversial, new work in Sculpture, Ceramics, Painting, Printmaking, Photography and Electronic Arts by a broad spectrum of emerging local and international artists from one of the top-ranked Graduate Fine Arts Schools in the nation.

Crossing will debut at the CCAC in the Old Clifton School Building, 3711 Clifton Avenue from May 25th to June 6th, with an opening on Final Friday, May 29th 2009, from 5 - 10 PM.

Crossing is free and open to the public Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 10 - 5, Saturdays 9 - 3 PM. Showings at other times can be arranged with individual artists (please click on links below).
