Performing Free Food
Out of dark recesses of DAAP, a performance troupe came together this fall out of Kim Paice's Philosophy and Performance course. These artists worked, read philosophy, and wandered the city of Cincinnati together. They performed LeRoi Jones's "The Toilet" and Sophocles's "Antigone," and fell madly in love with the subversive work of the Situationists.
Now the Binge & Purge Players, as they are calling themselves, are going public. They will be performing Free Food this Saturday, December 1 at 4:00 p.m. at the Contemporary Arts Center's Black Box Theater. Mostly this show is a commentary on the many faces of consumption and deception in American society. It uses shock, seduction, meditation, and audio anarchy.
Through a series of unconventional solo and ensemble performances, Free Food has something for everyone, even if that something is quite perverse or nothing at all.
