School of Art: Computer Requirements 2009-2010
Incoming School of Art undergraduate students are required to purchase laptop computers for their coursework. The College has arranged special pricing for computers that meet the requirements of the School of Art. You can either choose a Mac OS X based system (preferred), or a Windows based HP computer. Each system has slightly different purchasing processes, however all the software and accessories can be purchased at the UC Bookstore during summer orientation.
For Macintosh based Systems (preferred)
Purchasing is accomplished through the UC Bookstore. The store offers special pricing and bundles of all the required hardware, software, and provides a one-stop shop for all the accessories you might need.
You can choose one of the 4 models that meet our specifications by viewing the DAAP Recommended Systems Page. Keep in mind that although you can purchase hardware through their online store, you cannot purchase software online. See "When to Buy" below for more information.
When to Buy
We recommend that all students purchase their systems, software and accessories during summer orientation. After you have received your student ID during orientation you can head over to the bookstore, choose the bundle that meets your needs and pay for it all at once.
Purchase your Mac and get a free iPod touch!
Apple is now offering a promotion where if you buy a Mac you will get a free iPod touch. You can take advantage of this offer at the University Bookstore when you purchase your MacBook Pro. This offer does not apply to the HP systems.
Get a Free Canon Printer
Purchase your Mac from the UC bookstore and get a free Canon Pixma MP240 printer. In order to get this offer, you must purchase the Mac and printer at the same time. This offer does not apply to the HP systems.
For Windows based systems
Purchasing is accomplished through the CampusHP online Store. Here you can choose one of the models that meet our specifications. You can purchase your software and recommended accessories through the UC Bookstore.
Software
There are several required software packages for incoming students. Listed below you will see the names of the packages and estimated costs (educational price). All software will be available for purchase at Summer Orientation. In all cases you must first obtain your student ID. This will be part of the Summer Orientation Process.
Note This list only includes software required for the first year of study. Certain programs may have additional requirements for years beyond the first year. Because these requirements can vary and change from year to year, we ask that you speak to your program coordinator for more information.

$306 + tax from the UC Bookstore - Microsoft Office 2007/2008 for Windows and Mac
$8.00 + tax from the UC Bookstore - Microsoft Windows XP Professional (optional for Apple Systems)
Windows is included with HP computers. For Apple Systems, purchasing Windows is optional for the first year. It is only necessary if you wish to run your own Windows programs. Read more about windows on your Mac
