A comparison of the DAAP Recommended systems from Apple
If you are trying to decide which system is right for you, please read the descriptions below. Please note that not all systems are appropriate for each major, and in certain cases there may only be one choice. Please speak to a representative from your major if you have additional questions.
DAAP Recommended 1
This system is available for School of Art students only. This machine is suitable for students whose course of study does not include significant graphical work. Art Education and Art History students who are on a tight budget may find this system suitable. Students interested in Electronic Media should not consider this system since they will find it underpowered for their work.
DAAP Recommended 2
This system is a suitable base system for all majors. It has slightly less powerful specifications than Systems 3 or 4 and as a result is less expensive. For those who need to save some money, this is an appropriate choice. We do, however, recommend that you consider system 3 or 4 as they have slightly larger capacity hard drives and faster processors. For some this will be worth the extra cost, but otherwise this system is definitely suitable for whatever work you need to do.
DAAP Recommended 3 and DAAP Recommended 4
These systems are technically similar. The only major difference is the screen size (15-inch vs. 17-inch). We have found that students' opinions on screen size vary significantly. Some prefer the extra space that a 17-inch system gives, but others prefer a smaller footprint since they are on the move a lot. If you are undecided on what is right for you, we recommend you visit an Apple Retail Store (or other stores that sell Apple Computers) and try it out yourself. Sit down, put it on your lap and see what feels right.
