Co-op and Career Opportunities
Cooperative Education
Digital design students work for both small design firms, in the areas of interactive multimedia, networked communication, 3D design, and animation. Students begin their co-op experiences either in the third or fourth quarter of their sophomore year, and alternate quarters of full-time work and study on a year-round calendar until the final quarter of the fifth year (there is no tuition for the quarters students work). They graduate with 6 quarters, or a year and a half, of work experience in their field.
Career Opportunities
Digital designers, through this extensive design education, coupled with knowledge of computer programming and software capabilities, are prepared to work in a variety of capacities in the digital design profession. They are most likely to work for digital design firms to develop structural and functional information architecture for interactive and immersive environments, such as CD-ROM educational and game applications or may develop networked communications design for the internet and world wide web. Additionally, they may create 3D animation, film effects, and virtual reality applications such as product walk-arounds and building-fly-throughs. They may work independently or as members of a multidisciplinary team (which may include illustrators, designers, sound engineers, videographers, photographers, writers, film makers, management personnel, etc.).
