School of Design Scholarships
Thanks to the generosity of numerous alumni and friends of the college, scholarships are available to students in the School of Design.
There is an application process which varies by scholarship: some require an application, either online or hard-copy; some require submission of a letter or a portfolio; many require from 1-3 faculty recommendations. Deadline dates will vary. Please review thoroughly the information links below to learn the requirements of those scholarships which pertain to you. The deadline for most 2008-2009 college-wide scholarships is April 15, 2008.
Online Application Scholarships
The following scholarships have an online application process. With one application you can apply for as many of these scholarships as you are qualified for. You may change the contents of your application up until the prescribed due date.
Macy's Scholarships Endowment in Memory of Rudolph V. Javosky
Macy's, Inc., has made scholarships available to students enrolled in Digital, Fashion, Graphic Design, Architecture, and Interior Design. These funds have been given to encourage students to consider retail design careers. more
Traditional Application Scholarships
GM Scholars: General Motors Scholarship for Industrial Design
The University of Cincinnati is one of the schools from which General Motors recruits for its transportation talent. The School of Design has enjoyed a rich history of partnership with General Motors. As part of this collaborative relationship, GM has established scholarships for students enrolled in the School of Design’s Transportation Track. more
Frances D. and Stanley Cohen Scholarship Fund
The Frances D. and Stanley Cohen Scholarships are awarded to students of good character who have shown enthusiasm, a desire to succeed in their fields, a consistently strong academic record, and financial need. more
E. Mildred Breen Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship is available exclusively to those entering the third year of study (pre-junior) in Fashion Design (design or product tracks). more
Molly Zilliox Memorial Scholarship
Molly Zilliox’s former co-op employer, Horny Toad, Inc. of Chicago, and her family and friends established this scholarship fund in memory of Molly Zilliox, who died suddenly on June 3, 2000. The intent of the award is to encourage students to think of the broad impact/possibilities of fashion design. more
Chrysler Corporation Fund Scholarship
The Chrysler Corporation Fund Scholarship is awarded to students in the Industrial Design Transportation Track with a demonstrated ability to perform well in their field of study. Women and under-represented minorities are especially encouraged to apply. Financial aid may be considered. more
Lois Lynn Budde Scholarship and Educational Travel Fund
The family established this scholarship in honor of Lois Lynn Budde Dougherty who died from AIDS at a very early age. With this award, the family wishes to make visible to students the consequences of AIDS – a largely preventable disease, affecting all segments of the population, including heterosexual women. more
Digital Design First-Year Scholarship
The scholarship is presented to an outstanding student entering the Digital Design Program in the Fall of 2009. Scholarships are based on a combination of financial need and academic record, with emphasis on financial need. more
General Motors Minority Scholarships for Women and Under-represented Minorities
The University of Cincinnati is one of the schools from which General Motors recruits for its transportation talent. Richard and Jean Coyne Family Foundation Scholarship Fund
This scholarship fund was established to provide scholarships support for Graphic Design students in financial need. Special consideration is given to students in under-represented college populations more
Cincinnati MacDowell Society Artist Grant Awards
This is an external scholarship offered through the Cincinnati MacDowell Society.
The 2009 Artist Grant Awards in the field of Visual Arts will award prizes of $500-$1500. Categories include painting, sculpture, photography, graphic design, and architecture. moreFine Art Finals Midwest Regional Scholarship Competition
This is an external scholarship.
The 3rd Annual Fine Art Finals Midwest Regional Scholarship Competition scholarship competition is dedicated to the promotion of talented and gifted emerging artists at the collegiate level and awards their mastery of technique and excellence of artistic achievement. Finalists and Winners will be selected based on quality, originality, and the creativity of their work.
Media accepted include:
* Drawing - graphite, colored pencil, pen and ink, marker, pastel, charcoal, etc.
* Painting - oil, acrylic, watercolor, gouache, etc.
* Printmaking - etching, lithography, screen-printing, etc.
* Sculpture - clay, ceramic, plaster, marble, glass, wood, resin, porcelain, metal, etc.
* Jewelry - gemstones, precious metals or other materials, etc.
* Fibers - textiles, fabrics, yarn, natural & synthetic fibers, etc.
* Photography - traditional & digital.
