School of Architecture and Interior Design Scholarships

Thanks to the generosity of numerous alumni and friends of the college, scholarships are available to students in the School of Architecture & Interior Design.

There is an application process which varies by scholarship. All internal SAID applications need to be delivered in hardcopy format to Ellen Guerrettaz in the SAID office; some require submission of a letter or a portfolio; many require from 1-3 faculty recommendations. For external scholarships, please provide the information requested in the format requested. Deadline dates will vary. Please review thoroughly the information links below to learn the requirements of those scholarships which pertain to you. The deadline for most 2009-2010 scholarships is April 15, 2009, but check specific scholarships.

Online Application Scholarships

The following scholarships have an online application process. With one application you can apply for as many of these scholarships as you are qualified for. You may change the contents of your application up until the prescribed due date.

  • Macy's Scholarships Endowment in Memory of Rudolph V. Javosky

    Macy's, Inc., has made scholarships available to students enrolled in Digital, Fashion, Graphic Design, Architecture, and Interior Design. These funds have been given to encourage students to consider retail design careers. more

Traditional Application Scholarships

  • Joan C. Rieveschl Scholarship in Honor of John Senhauser and David Niland

    This fund provides bi-annual scholarships for one or more outstanding SAID students. Students will be selected by the SAID Director in concurrence with the honorees. For information, contact the SAID office. more

  • Harris Forusz and Ido deGroot Scholarship

    This scholarship, in memory of two DAAP faculty members, provides scholarships to undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in Architecture, Urban Planning, and Community Planning. Deserving students are selected on the basis of academic merit and financial need; undergraduates must be in final two years of program. more

  • J. Clifford McDaniel Scholarship

    This fund is awarded annually to students in the third, fourth, or fifth year in Architecture on the basis of academic achievement. more

  • Newton Tebow Scholarship

    This fund is awarded annually to students in the third, fourth, or fifth year in Architecture on the basis of academic achievement. more

  • AIA Ohio Foundation Scholarship

    Architecture students in their fourth year or beyond are eligible for this $3000 award. more

  • The American Structurepoint Fellowship Fund

    The American Structurepoint Fellowship Fund has been established through the generosity of American Structurepoint. The purpose of this fund is to provide meaningful scholarship support for Master in Architecture students, in order to encourage student consideration of AS as a co-op experience. more

  • Architecture Class of 1984 Scholarship

    This fund provides scholarships for architecture students. more

  • Baxter Hodell Donnelly Preston, Inc. Scholarship

    This fund has been established to attract and retain deserving students of high academic achievement who intend or are currently pursuing a degree in architecture. Preference in awards will be given to under-represented minority students are strongly encouraged to apply. more

  • Knoll, Inc. and Contract Interiors of Cincinnati Scholarship

    This fund awards $1,000 to one interior design student in their third or fourth year, with a 3.0 or above GPA. more

  • Furniture Library Association Scholarship

    This award is made to an upper-level Interior Design student. more

    SAID Administration/Faculty may award scholarships to high school seniors and college freshmen who plan to study architecture, exhibit excellenct academic performance, and demonstrated financial need. more

  • HIXSON Architecture Engineering Interiors Scholarship Fund in Honor of Harry J. Bothwell

    Provides annual $2,500 scholarship to an outstanding first- through fourth-year undergraduate student enrolled in the architecture program at the College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning. Student must be in good academic standing and demonstrate need for financial assistance. more

    Annual awards are made to deserving students who are studying Architecture. more

  • George Fabe Scholarship

    Multiple awards are given to graduate level SAID students, with preference given to students in under-represented groups. more

  • John S. Madzula Scholarship

    This award will be made to an Architecture student with demonstrated financial need. more

  • The Earls Family Endowment

    This fund was established for the benefit of students and faculty of SAID. It provides several scholarships for SAID students annually. more

  • The Luzerne Foundation

    The Luzerne Foundation, a community foundation, administers a number of endowed scholarship funds that are established by people wanting to assist applicants serious about their long-term educational pursuit. more

  • Kate Neal Kinley Memorial Fellowship

    This fellowship is a wonderful opportunity for students whose principal or major studies have been in the fields of art, architecture, dance, landscape architecture, music, theatre, and urban and regional planning to enhance their professional standing, aid their pursuit of an advanced degree, or finance a special project within the field. more

  • Lenore Cunix Levy Endowment Fund

    The LCLE Fund has been established by the family and friends of Lenore Cunix Levy and Lawrence B. Levy, MD, to provide meaningful scholarship support for students in the School of Architecture and Interior Design. Scholarship recipients will be selected on the basis of academic merit and personal qualities of integrity and leadership. more

  • Frank T. Leo Scholarship

    This fund is awarded annually for second or third year students who show exception potential in architecture in the School of Architecture and Interior Design. more

  • Gensler African American Internship and Scholarship (GAAINS)

    This is an external scholarship provided by Gensler.

    Each year, less than 150 African American student receive accredited degrees in architecture in the United States. Gensler is committed to the value of diversity within our firm and the design industry, and has seen a critical need to support the education and mentorship of this community design talent. more

  • RTKL Traveling Fellowship

    This is an external fellowship offered by RTKL Associates, Inc. The fellowship was established in honor of one of its founders, Francis T. Taliaferro, FAIA and is intended to support foreign travel undertaken to further educational goals. more

  • WHR Architects Tradewell Fellowship

    This is an external scholarship offered by WHR Architects, Inc.

    Named in honor of the late Gary Tradewell, a former Vice President and Medical Planner of WHR, the Tradewell Fellowship was created to build careers of aspiring healthcare architects. Each year, the Tradewell Fellow is involved with clients in early master planning and design with a particular focus on healing environments and collaborative design methods. The Fellowship begins and ends in July and includes employment at WHR Architects in Houston.

    In addition to working directly with senior medical planners and clients, Fellows receive career guidance from leaders at WHR and a network of past Tradewell Fellows. At the completion of the year-long Fellowship, participants have begun to develop the skills and experiences to become leaders and mentors.

  • Charles E. Peterson Prize Competiton (Historical American Building Survey)

    This is an external scholarship.

    The Historic American Buildings Survey (HABS) of the National Park Service, The Athenaeum of Philadelphia and The American Institute of Architects (AIA) announce the 2009 Charles E. Peterson Prize, which annually recognizes the best set of measured drawings prepared to HABS standards and donated to HABS by students.

    The building or structure selected for documentation must be appropriate for inclusion in the HABS Collection. While HDP is pleased to accept the donation of the documentation of engineering and industrial sites for the HAER Collection, and the donation of landscape documentation for the HALS Collection, such projects are not eligible for the Peterson Prize. In addition, drawings must be of a building that has not been previously recorded by HABS through measured drawings, or an addendum to an existing set of HABS drawings that makes a new and substantial contribution to the understanding of the building.

  • MOA Robert L. Outland Women and Minority Scholarship + Internship

    This is an external scholarship offered by MOA Architecture.

    Named in honor of MOA Architecture's founding principal and an Oklahoma Choctaw Native American, this award was established to recognize and reward entering fifth year, or graduate level women and minority students in an accredited architectural program. This scholarship is intended for students who demonstrate their passion for architecture, high academic achievement, and design ability. more

  • The American Institute of Architects Corporate Architects and Facility Management Scholarship

    This is an external scholarship offered by the American Institute of Architects. This scholarship is administered in conjunction with the staff of National Architectural Accrediting Board-approved programs of architecture in the United States and RAIC Canadian schools of architecture. more

  • Tile Contractors' Association of America Architectural Scholarship

    This is an external scholarship offered by the Tile Contracters' Association of America.

    Since 2001, the Tile Contractors’ Association of America (TCAA) has had the honor of awarding two annual merit scholarships in the amount of $2,000.00 to outstanding architectural students. To date, TCAA has awarded scholarships to fourteen exceptionally talented students.

    TCAA is seeking future architects who will lead their industry, shape the language of design, and create new ways to give shape to their vision for public and private space as art for habitation. more

  • Browning Day Mullins Dierdorf Scholarship

    This $1000 scholarship will be awarded to one architecture student entering his or her junior year at DAAP. Students must maintain a 3.6 GPA. more

  • Cincinnati MacDowell Society Artist Grant Awards

    This is an external scholarship offered through the Cincinnati MacDowell Society.

    The 2009 Artist Grant Awards in the field of Visual Arts will award prizes of $500-$1500. Categories include painting, sculpture, photography, graphic design, and architecture. more
