DAAP's First-Rate Fashion Show Draws Macy's Sponsorship

National department store Macy's is sponsoring this year's fashion show and helping to create an event that's "sew fine."

The fashion show partnership between the University of Cincinnati's top-ranked College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning (DAAP) and Macy's is a perfect fit.

This year's collaboration between DAAP's internationally ranked School of Design and Macy's means a professionally modeled, choreographed and lighted end-of-the-year fashion show on June 8. It also means

  • This year's show will be Webcast.
  • UC student fashions will be on view throughout the coming year in Macy's store windows.
  • Terry Lundgren, chair, president and CEO of Macy's, will speak at the opening of this year's fashion show.
  • UC President Nancy L. Zimper and DAAP Dean Judith Koroscik will wear ensembles at the show that were created by Macy's designer and UC alum Jay Ott.

The 2007 fashion show - which is expected to draw more than 1,000 patrons - will be held under a big-top tent on DAAP's grounds. It is professionally modeled and lighted and, thanks to the Macy's team, the event includes the best of amenities within the tent: air conditioning, carpet runners along the floor and even gift bags for patrons.

And once the show ends on June 8, results of the Macy's/DAAP collaboration will still be visible. For instance, seven large, street-level Macy's store windows at Race and Fifth streets will be used to display DAAP fashions along with projects encompassing other design disciplines within the college, including architecture, interior design, fine art and planning. The seven windows will display these designs from June 25 through July 20, and pedestrians and shoppers will have the opportunity to vote on their favorite window.

And starting in the fall, Macy's will devote two second-story windows to showcase student work throughout the upcoming academic year.

These efforts are a continuation of an enduring partnership between Macy's and DAAP. Past collaborations between the two organizations include an annual golf outing every August to support student scholarships.
