Why study Community Development?
Community Development is a multidisciplinary field that draws practitioners from many academic backgrounds. The proposed certificate aims to give students from a variety of undergraduate backgrounds the opportunity to gain pertinent graduate level skills in community development, including community organizing, affordable housing development, and public policy advocacy. The certificate incorporates core course work across planning and real estate, with electives from across multiple colleges. The intention is to give students interested in community development careers the foundational knowledge in the physical, social, and economic aspects of the field.
Admission Requirements
Students must have completed an undergraduate degree. In addition, students must have completed the 1-credit course FIN7000: Foundations in Finance (often offered online). Students who have completed an undergraduate course that covers the time value of money may apply for a waiver of this prerequisite.
The certificate can be completed as a stand-alone certificate or in addition to a graduate degree program.
